I'm sure that my really low expectations contributed to me enjoying this movie, but regardless, the general consensus around the internet (from what I could gather) is that its a pretty good "found-footage-esque" one, with some really inventive ways of using the media (an online call/meeting) and integrating it into the scary parts. Its only 50 minutes long, so it doesn't overstays its welcome, and all the tense moments and jumpscares are very well made, and I also didn't feel that any scene was over the top, like some in Unfriended. While scouting spooky middle-of-nowhere locations for Savage’s next project one of three planned features for prolific horror producer Jason Blum the duo stumbled upon what looked like a drug. The film is distinct for taking place entirely in a screencast of a Zoom.

I expected Host to be sort of the same thing, and I was actually very surprised with how well this movie is put together. Host is a 2020 independent British supernatural horror film directed by Rob Savage. I watched Unfriended (2015) and thought that while it was pretty original for the time it released, it was. Unfriended takes place entirely over a Skype call among a group of increasingly fewer friends as a. Initially I didn't expect to be very entertained. The 2015 horror movie Unfriended was ahead of its time. Its premise is a very simple one: A few friends gather in a Zoom meeting to perform a seance. It released last year and from what I could find online, the quarantine and covid were its main inspirations. Directed by Rob Savage ( Dawn of the Deaf ), who wrote the script with Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd, Host was shot remotely in the actors’ homes during quarantine and adheres to social distancing. I was really bored tonight and was looking for something to watch on Netflix when I bumped into this movie called "Host".
